With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas from Saturday 27tth September the Service of Vespers will be celebrated in our Church at 6pm on weekends where the Sunday Liturgy is celebrated in Milton Keynes.

Saturday Vespers is in fact the preparation for Sunday as the church day changes in the evening.

Saturday Vespers consists of an opening prayer, Psalm 103 (Septuagint Orthodox Numbering), Psalm 140 (Septuagint) with hymns of Sunday and the day, an entrance preceded by lights and with the priest holding the censer, petitions and prayers, more hymns and concludes with the Nunc Dimittis and the troparia of Sunday and the day.

Vespers not only marks the change of the church's day, but also through the lamplighting psalm 140 the fact that despite the night is approaching that Christ the Light of the World continues to shine in our lives unendingly. It also refers to the moment in the creation where God said "Let there be light".

There will be a further announcement about a series of talks on the services of the Church in the coming weeks once a guest speaker has been arranged for the first talk.
