School of Byzantine Music

Beloved in the Lord,

Attached you will find the Archbishop’s encyclical (in both Greek and English) regarding the School of Byzantine Music of our Archdiocese, which thi

s year celebrates 40 years of continuous service in the United Kingdom.

The School, under the direction of the Revd Protopresbyter Joseph Paliouras, offers a full programme of lessons in Byzantine Music (theory and practice), chanting, liturgy, typikon, and folk choirs, together with European music and traditional instruments. Classes are open to children and adults alike and provide a vital opportunity to be formed in the living tradition of ecclesiastical music.

We ask that you kindly share this information widely in your parishes and encourage participation. As the Archbishop notes, this work strengthens both the liturgical and spiritual life of our Archdiocese, and we hope many will support and enrol.

The blessing and official start of lessons will take place on Monday, 6th October 2025 at 7:00 pm at the School’s premises in Wood Green.

Saturday 27 September 2025 (next Saturday) the Service of Vespers will take place at 6pm. As it was announced in our previous communication, Vespers will take place on Saturday, on the Eve of every Sunday that we will have Holy Liturgy in our Community.

Sunday 28 September 2025: The Blessing of The School Year 2025-2026 will take place after the Holy Service. We are cordially inviting all pupils, children and adults, parents and Members of the Community to come to this Annual Ceremony which is part of our traditions, culture and identity especially when we are far away from the place of birth or our ancestors.

Your presence will show encouragement, respect to the traditions and to the work of the teachers and all who are involved with the running of the School of our Community.
